12th - 13th July - Singapore
Leaving Thailand behind we paid a flying visit to Singapore before heading on to Australia.
Dubbed 'ban city', we foundthe little country a beautifully clean and relaxing place after some of the hectic metropolises we had been to recently. It was so refreshing to be able to find an organised taxi rank at the airport rather than having to battle with hundreds of shouting touts!
Staying in China Town was a perfect spot for us as it was full of sizzling food stalls selling all kinds of wonderful seafoods - we decided not to try the other popular dishes that were being proudly advertised as 'pig organ specialities'! With TLDs* and TCWG* we got our heads down in preparation for a full on day of sightseeing.
The weather was beautiful for strolling around the city as we ambled through Little India - I say ambled; it was more a case of me following Pol in and out of colourful shops selling all sorts of clothes and jewellery! After Little India we headed down to the Colonial district in search of the famous Singapore Sling in the posh Raffles Hotel - sitting in the smart bar sipping our red cocktails we only gave away the fact that we were pikey travellers by devouring the huge bowl of free monkey nuts that was on our table! Full of peanuts we strolled on to the Orchard Road area and I amused myself bartering with the electronics shops for memory sticks whilst Pol went all glassy eyed in the dazzling department stores!
Popping back to China Town for our final feed of South East Asian grub we scoffed some soup and then jumped on the tube for the aiport.
All in all a great final day and a half in South East Asia - we're looking forward to another stop off in Singapore when we next head out to NZ to see Erika and Clayton.
*(TLDs - tummies like drums. TCWG - toes curling with glee.)
