16th - 21st May - Kathmandu, Nepal
What a fantastic lovely luscious place!!
Left airport with no hassling touts - in amazingly lovely hotel for cheap cheap. Both have slept best we have since leaving home - not sweaty and minging here!!
Everybody has been friendly and easy going - lots of people wanting to be our guides for the day, selling their services but can't blame them for doing their job and at least they understand 'no' politely!!
Have seen heaps already. Shops amazing - mucho mucho lovely things sweetie and enjoyable to wander around. The streets are all bustling and busy but the atmosphere here is extremely calm and welcoming.
The cultures are very much intermingled here. Have visited some wonderful Buddhist and Hindu Temples. They are incredible to be so close to, imposing in amongst the local architecture, yet incredibly calming places to be. Lots of people (not many tourists it seems) are about, worshipping, praying, meditating - the monkeys however scrapping and causing bit of a comotion!
Hotel is wonderful - a refreshing change after our last night in India! And we're eating well you'll all be relieved to hear! Still no need for the copious packs of Imodium - but we're still touching wood and using up my germ gel at all times. Planning to head off into the mountains next week for some trekking - maybe they'll come in use there!
